Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. WWII Type AN-6530 Flying Goggle set, complete with its original Chas. Fischer Spring Company box and an assortment of period replacement lenses and American Optical lens wrappers. The goggles retain their green-tinted lenses, black adjustable elastic head strap, original face cushion, and the distinctive metal bridge clearly marked AN6530.

The AN-6530 was a mid-WWII standardized flying goggle intended for use by both U.S. Army and Navy aviation personnel. The National Air and Space Museum describes the AN-6530 as essentially a strengthened development of the earlier U.S. Army Air Forces Type B-7 flying goggle.

This example has the characteristic metal two-piece frame surrounding the lenses, joined by the marked center bridge. The interior face cushion retains much of its tan chamois covering, while the adjustable black elastic strap remains attached with its original metal fittings. The fitted lenses have a green tint and remain quite presentable, showing scattered age-related marks and surface wear.

Especially desirable with this example is the original cardboard frame box, clearly printed:

The lot also includes period replacement lenses, including amber and green-tinted examples, along with two original American Optical paper lens wrappers. Both wrappers are specifically marked for AN-6530-type amber flying-goggle lenses under Specification No. AN-DD-L-236 and Part No. 33A5022-4. One reads:

This wrapper bears a MAY 11 1945 inspection/date stamp. The second American Optical wrapper is likewise marked AMBER, Specification AN-DD-L-236, Part No. 33A5022-4, and bears a JUL 26 1944 stamp.

Condition is very good overall for original wartime aviation equipment, with the goggles retaining a highly attractive, complete appearance. The metal frames display a pleasing aged finish with only scattered tarnishing and surface discoloration, and the lenses remain clear and display well despite normal scratches, spotting, and handling marks. The original face cushion is still substantially intact, with expected age-related hardening, cracking, and some flaking to the underlying rubber, most noticeable along the upper edge. The black elastic strap remains complete and securely attached, though naturally showing age and reduced elasticity.

The original cardboard box is a particularly desirable accompaniment and remains well marked, showing only expected storage and handling wear. The included American Optical lens wrappers are also well preserved for fragile wartime paper items, retaining their clearly legible markings and dates despite toning, wrinkling, and minor edge tears. The spare lenses remain a strong addition to the set and show only scattered surface marks from age and storage. Overall, this is a very appealing and unusually complete AN-6530 grouping with excellent display value.
