Item Description
Original Item: Only one available. This is a very nice U.S. Four Star General's Military vehicle identification fender plate, from the Korea / Vietnam war era. The plate is made of stainless steel, and the front has a red field with 4 plated alloy stars attached. It measures the standard 9" x 6" that the U.S. army uses for their vehicle rank plates. Condition is very good, with just a few small areas of missing paint, and one of the stars is missing the tip of one ray.
Plates such as this were for use on military vehicles, usually a Jeep or other small vehicle, to indicate that it was carrying a "flag officer", which was an army officer of high enough rank to fly a flag from the location of their command. In this case, the plate represents the "flag" while the officer was in the vehicle, which would have a holder attached to the fender. When the officer left the vehicle, the plate would then be removed and place in its carrier.
This example still retains the original carrier, which is dark olive drab in color, with a red soft wool interior. The carrier does have some staining and wear from use, and the top of one side has started to tear apart. Otherwise it is in very good condition, with working snaps on the top.
