Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 10 Available. Evasion charts or escape maps are maps made for service members, and intended to be used when caught behind enemy lines to assist in performing escape and evasion. Such documents were secreted to prisoners of war by various means to aid in escape attempts.

During World War II, these clandestine maps were used by many American, British, and allied servicemen to escape from behind enemy lines. Special material was used for this purpose, due to the need for a material that would be hardier than paper, and would not tear or dissolve in water.

Evasion charts produced for the US, UK, and NATO were printed on vinyl sheets in the 1960s. Modern evasion charts are made of Tyvek 'paper', which permit printing of minute detail while remaining waterproof and tear-resistant.

- 37 ½” x 25 ½” AAF Cloth Map - Southwest Pacific Area (1944): North Celebes and South Celebes.
- 34 ½” x 28 ½” AAF Cloth Map - Southwest Pacific Area (1944): Amboina and Halmahera.
- 36 ½” x 28 ½” AAF Cloth Map - Southwest Pacific Area (1944): Papua and Nassau.
- 25” x 23 ½” AAF Cloth Chart Vladivostok - Eastern Asia / Keijō (1944)
- 40 ½” x 33 ½” AAF Cloth Chart Central East Asia (1945): This is a single sided map, there are no other locations on the back side.
- 36” x 32 ½” AAF Cloth Map - Southwest Pacific Area (1944): Southwestern / East Java and Timor.
- 26 ½” x 25 ½” Map of North-East Coast of New Guinea (1943): Showing areas of Madang-Lau-Wau and on the opposite side Wewak-Madang-Mt Hagan.

All maps are in wonderful condition with all markings and colors still easily discernible.
