  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very rare U.S. Army Air Forces Type B-4 Parachute First Aid Kit, which is contained in a round plastic container about 5 inches wide by 1 inch tall. The kit was designed to fit in the parachute survival frying pan, which was made of metal and just bit enough to fit the first aid kit. This protected the kit, and also helped keep the used space to a bare minimum when bailing out. This is the first example of one of these rare first aid kids that we have had. The frying pans themselves are virtually unobtainable on the market.

Like most WWII issue survival / first aid kits, the container is constructed from an early yellow translucent form of plastic, which has deformed somewhat over the years. As the kit was held closed by the frying pan, there is no type of closure on the container. It still has the original identification label on the inside lid, which has several small pages of instructions on the bottom:-

These kits used by paratroopers & aircrew usually contained items such as salt tablets, halazone water purification tablets, boric acid, sulfadiazine, tea tablet, soap, bandage compresses, BAND-AID bandages, iodine, needle / thread, and so forth. This example looks to have all these contents and more, possibly having items added over the years. There seem to be almost a surplus of items, and the lid can no longer be fully closed.

Finding complete kits is exceptionally difficult as these were issued to hungry air crews on ling bombing runs, and items like the tea tablets were particularly vulnerable to use. Ready to display!

Idiot Clause - the contents of this kit are pre-1945 manufacture and are NOT suitable for consumption. They were intended to last the war, not 70 years, and are being sold as novelty collector pieces only.
