Developed as a wartime refinement of the earlier USAAF B-7 pattern, the AN-6530 became one of the recognizable forms of American flight eye protection during WWII. This example retains its original elastic head strap and displays honest service wear, oxidation staining, and age related cracking that give it the unmistakable appearance of a genuinely used set of wartime goggles.

The goggles retain their original elastic strap, which remains in notably good condition. Original straps are often stretched, frayed, replaced, or completely missing, making its survival an important feature.

The frame and surrounding finish show moderate to heavy service wear. There is oxidation staining across portions of the metalwork and substantial cracking to the finish on the front. These condition issues are consistent with age, handling, and aviation use and have been left as found.

The AN-6530 was introduced during WWII as a joint Army and Navy aviation pattern. Its design was based upon the earlier B-7 goggles used by the United States Army Air Forces. Contracts for production were awarded to Chas Fischer Spring Company of Brooklyn, New York, and American Optical.

Flight goggles were essential equipment in open cockpit and partially enclosed aircraft, protecting the wearer’s eyes from wind, dust, debris, oil, glare, and extreme cold. They were worn by pilots, aircrew, and other aviation personnel and were often paired with leather or cloth flight helmets, oxygen masks, and communications equipment.

The AN designation reflected the increasing standardization of aviation equipment between the Army and Navy during the war. This reduced duplication and allowed both services to use common specifications and supply systems for items such as goggles, instruments, fittings, and flight clothing.

This is a very appealing original set of AN-6530 goggles with clear front markings, its original elastic strap, and strong service character. The cracked finish, oxidation staining, and moderate wear are fully disclosed, but the goggles remain a scarce and highly displayable addition to a U.S. Army Air Forces, Naval Aviation, flight equipment, pilot mannequin, or broader WWII aviation collection.
