Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Although the vast majority of Americans never saw an actual enemy combatant during World War II, they did see countless depictions of the enemy. Wartime poster artists frequently depicted the Allies’ various enemies as ruthless, vicious, backstabbing, inhuman, or demonic. Such imagery often resorted to exaggeration and hyperbole. Yet the point of the intense propaganda imagery was clear: losing the war to the Axis powers would be a global catastrophe. This poster is a prime example of the “Nature of the Enemy” series that were produced during the war.
This is a near mint 20" x 28" World War II Propaganda poster with a gripping image of a swas (hook cross) clad arm, striking down the Holy Bible with a 98k bayonet. Almost everyone considers this one of the greatest of World War II propaganda posters. Barbara Marks is sometimes credited as the artist and we know that she did create other World War II posters.
Bottom border of the poster reads:
OWI Poster- No. 76, Additional copies may be obtained upon request from the Division of Public Inquiries, office of War Information, Washington D.C., U.S. Government Printing Office: 1943-O-533688
An unrestored totally original poster with a very clean overall appearance. It has very minor signs of use, such as edge and fold wear, and minor creases. There is also some tearing on the bottom center crease, so it should be handled with care. The Poster has been folded and rolled, as it was originally for mailing to various government locations around the country.
Near excellent condition with full color retention. You don’t find them any better than this!
