Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good original U.S. WWII AN-6542 summer flying helmet grouping, consisting of a Slote & Klein AN-6542-2S lightweight flight helmet, original AN-6530 flying goggles, ANB-H-1 radio receivers, and an attached tag marked 819. This could mean it was worn by a member of the 819th Bombardment Squadron, but this is only a guess. The helmet shows substantial service wear but retains its original chinrest, manufacturer and size labels, communications equipment, and associated wartime goggles.
The AN-6542 was a lightweight summer flying helmet developed under the joint Army-Navy AN equipment system. It was part of the AN-6540, AN-6542, and AN-6543 family of flight helmets, with variations in materials, attachment fittings, chin restraints, goggle straps, and oxygen-mask accommodations.
This example is constructed from tan lightweight fabric and remains in fair, service-used condition. It retains its original tan velvet-covered chinrest, which attaches to the helmet by a snap on one side and an adjustable buckle on the other. The chinrest remains complete and continues to connect correctly to both sides of the helmet. The helmet retains the tag:

A separate tag reads MEDIUM for the size. There is some heavy wear to the interior headphone covering.
Also included is an original pair of AN-6530 flying goggles. The AN-6530 was a mid-WWII joint Army-Navy design based upon a strengthened version of the earlier Army Air Forces B-7 flying goggles. It was manufactured with metal frames, a one-piece rubber face cushion, replaceable lenses, and an adjustable elastic strap.
The goggles remain in good condition. The rubber face cushion is in good shape without much stiffness. The lenses, frames, and strap show expected age and service wear and should be handled carefully.
The combination of the Slote & Klein AN-6542-2S helmet, Medium size label, original ANB-H-1 communications receivers, AN-6530 Army-Navy flying goggles, surviving chinrest, and unusual attached “819” identification tag makes this a particularly complete example of American late-WWII flight equipment.
