Original Items. Only One Lot Available. Shock is a life-threatening condition caused by failure of blood circulation, causing inadequate oxygen delivery to the tissues and cells of the body. The effects of shock are initially reversible, but can rapidly become irreversible, resulting in multiorgan failure and death. There are several possible causes and we now recognize different types of shock: septic shock, hemorrhagic shock, etc.
The single most important factor in shock is the reduction in blood volume present in the peripheral circulation. It results from the loss of plasma into the extravascular (outside the blood vessels) tissue spaces. Most therapeutic efforts must be directed towards overcoming this loss in volume.
The idea that loss of plasma was the single most important factor in shock was further strengthened by laboratory tests. In these tests, animals were bled and then reinfused with their plasma, which revived them, even after 75-80% of their blood was first removed.
This is a great lot of plasma material consisting of two boxes, one put together by the American Red Cross and the other by The Armour Laboratories.
The first box measures 7½ x 10 x 4” and is labeled by the American Red Cross with a March 1945 contract date. The box contains a large glass and a rubber tube attachment for injecting plasma. The box also had a small sheet which would have had the names of whoever donated the blood for the plasma. This one is unused.
The second box also measures 7½ x 10 x 4” and is labeled as STANDARD ARMED SERVICES PACKAGE / PLASMA, NORMAL HUMAN, DRIED and contains two 600cc containers of Distilled Water, one which is opened and no longer contains water, and one which is still sealed with 600cc of distilled water.
