Original U.S. WWII Airborne Garrison Cap, Insignia, & Photograph Grouping with Smoking Pipe - 517th PIR Oval - Unnamed

Original Items. Only One Group Available. This is an interesting grouping of original WWII U.S. Army airborne-related material reportedly belonging to the same unidentified soldier. The group includes two wartime photographs, an enlisted garrison cap, airborne insignia, glider wings, qualification and service insignia, a smoking pipe, and a 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment background oval. All of the pieces carry collection tags marked MINSIG 171G GROUP 123, supporting their association within an earlier collection, although the original soldier’s identity has not been established.
The two photos depict the same soldier in the United States, in one shot with a cigar and Thompson submachine gun, in the other with a smoking pipe in his Ike Jacket, with Glider wings over an oval on his jacket. The insignia in the group includes an Airborne Command patch, a Paraglider garrison cap patch, a 517th PIR oval, a set of Glider wings, a Sterling CIB, US & Infantry collar discs, a PUC, and Good Conduct and WWII Victory ribbons.
The garrison cap included has blue infantry piping and a blue Parachutist cap badge with a maker mark on the sweatband for Pioneer in San Francisco, California.
The smoking pipe has an unscrewable mouthpiece with a club on the side. The pipe itself is stamped KAYWOODIE / EMPUSSE(?).
An interesting group, all marked with tags denoting it as part of a collection, MINSIG 171G GROUP 123.
This grouping is especially noteworthy for the combination of its two photographs, Pioneer-marked Infantry garrison cap, Paraglider cap insignia, 517th PIR background oval, Glider wings, Sterling CIB, service insignia, and smoking pipe apparently corresponding to the one seen in the photographs. Although the soldier remains unidentified and the precise 517th PIR connection cannot yet be proven, the pieces together form a strong and unusually personal assemblage of WWII airborne material.
