Original U.S. WWII Air Transport Command ATC Crush Peaked Visor Cap

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Officially known as a "Cover, Cap, Service", this visor cap in winter green/brown issue color is in very good condition with the iconic aviator crush shape. This peaked cap features a copper tone WWII Air Transport Command ATC insignia over a leather visor. It features heavy canvas frame construction and a leather sweatband. Size is approximately a 6 7 3/4 hat. Interior crown lining is flaking but overall condition is very good with signs of genuine use and age, but it is the real deal.

Air Transport Command (ATC) was a United States Air Force unit that was created during World War II as the strategic airlift component of the United States Army Air Forces. It had two main missions, the first being the delivery of supplies and equipment between the United States and the overseas combat theaters; the second was the ferrying of aircraft from the manufacturing plants in the United States to where they were needed for training or for operational use in combat. ATC also operated a worldwide air transportation system for military personnel.

The crush cap identified its wearer as an experienced pro, and was as much a part of his identity as his leather flight jacket. The crush cap look quickly became popular with ground army officers and general officers.
