Original U.S. WWII Air Raid Warden 4-Gallon Hand Pump Fire Extinguisher tested by Underwriters Laboratory with Letter- Hoboken New Jersey

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Manufactured in the early 1940s by Tamco. in Tiffin, Ohio and constructed of galvanized steel with a wooden hand pump. This unique pump was used by John Peter Ficken who was a WW2 Air Raid Warden for the Water Front patrol of near 600 Bloomfield Street in Hoboken, New Jersey. We obtained this from John’s son, who wants nothing more than it to go to a collector that will appreciate it and maybe even put it to use!

Also of interest is the Underwriters Laboratory data plate and inspection number. Familiar to people today mostly for their testing standards and logos on electronic devices, the testing organization also pioneered safety standards for fire equipment. To this day virtually all fire extinguishers in the United States bear the Underwriters Laboratory inspection mark.

Included with the purchase is a notarized letter from the original owner’s son to add concrete provenance to this unique WW2 Civil Defense collectible.

Pump is in near excellent work condition, the data plate reads:
