  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the small scrapbook of Tec. 4 Horace Holliday, an African American soldier who served in France during World War II. The scrapbook measures roughly 5 x 6½” and contains 30 photos, with some bits of ephemera as well. The neatest piece is the Memorandum Reciept dated June 2nd, 1944 which shows that he was issued 1903 Springfield Rifle #1443016 with his bayonet and ammunition. We’ve never seen one of these before!

The photographs include photos of Holliday and his comrades, as well as many family photographs of his wife and children in his family. There are 4 photographs of white people near the end, and we aren’t sure if these are original to the album.

We haven’t been able to find much on Holliday’s overseas service, but we know he was overseas from January 22nd, 1944 until November 25th, 1945, for 1 year and 11 months overseas. Many of the photographs are disconnected from the book.

This is a great album, ready for further research and display.
