Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding photo album group having belonged to Corporal Louis Della Valle, 82nd Bombardment Squad, 38th Bombardment Group. The album has some great material, including Japanese KIA photos, bombers in flight, a “Crew of the Week” graphic for Della Valle’s crew, an experimental Japanese plane, and more! The set also includes his official Army Honorable Discharge (very difficult to find retained) and a folder of other documents. Della Valle arrived overseas very late and didn’t see any combat.
The group includes:
- 7 x 11” U.S. Army Service Album with leather cover. There are roughly 89 photographs total in the album, with some documents and postcards included as well. Some of the better photos include bombers in flight, group photos during training, Japanese villages, a great couple pieces of nose art, and a photo of Japanese men and U.S. soldiers standing in front of an experimental Japanese aircraft, the Kyūshū J7W Shinden “Magnificent Lightning” fighter plane.
- Two Army Air Force patches.
- Della Valle’s discharge certificate. It shows that he arrived overseas on August 12th, 1945, so he didn’t see any combat before the end of the war.
- Folder of other original documents including degrees from an Italian university he attended in the 1960s.
A fantastic photo album group, ready for further research and display!
