Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the extensive engraved watch, ID card, medla, insignia, photo album, and ephemera grouping of Flight Officer Phillip D. DiTillo, who served with the 1304th AAF Base Unit, Indo China Division, Air Transport Command during the Second World War. He was a flight instructor in civilian life so he was very well-suited for this work. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater for 13 months.
The group consists of:
- Bulova Watch with original leather straps, non-functional, engraved on backside A.B. to P.D.T. 12/25/39, so this was a Christmas present to DiTillo in 1939.
- DiTillo’s War Department ID Card, rare. Issued 12-31-44.
- Air Medal in case, not engraved.
- Army Air Force Training Command DUIs on original issue cards, MECO of Chicago.
- Small framed photo of DiTillo with two others in an older plane.
- Folder with all original discharge paperwork and other documents.
- Small booklets and wallets, empty.
- “His Service Record” Book with lots of photos, foreign captured currency, and two pages of the front motifs of his Camel cigarette packages, all dated with time and location. Really tremendous stuff.
- Dorr Field, Florida photo album with great photos of DiTello flying, in flight suit, in plane, next to plane, with crew, sight-seeing, etc. Outstanding shots. 100+ photos.
- Two large folders with countless Army documents, ATC documents, personal documents, just too much to list.
