  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is an outstanding uniform & dog tag grouping identified to Lieutenant Joseph F. Lively Jr., a pilot in the 710th Bombardment Squadron, 447th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force who was awarded the Air Medal. The group includes his great wartime Ike jacket with rare wine-colored lining, a very rare AAF ID badge with his name and photo, and a set of Sterling Pilot wings on a great “Combat Crew” blue rectangle, his shirt, dog tags, ID bracelet, photographs, and his original Air Medal citation.

    The group includes:

    - Lively’s uniform Ike Jacket with extremely scarce wine-colored lining. The jacket has 2nd Lieutenant bars on each shoulder, an 8th Air Force patch on the left shoulder, US & AAF collar insignia, a Presidential Unit Citation over the right breast pocket, and a great AAF ID Badge reading J.F.LIVELY JR. with his photo hanging on the left breast pocket button. Over the pocket are a 2-place ribbon bar with the Air Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal, and over this is a great set of Sterling Pilot wings with a pin-back on top of a stitching blue “combat crew” rectangle. This is often referred to as a “Combat Box”, which signified that the individual was an active AAF member in theater. The jacket has heavy sweat-staining.
    - Lively’s Army shirt with AAF and Lieutenant bar on the collar.
    - Lively’s two dog tags on a chain.
    - Lively’s Sterling ID Bracelet reading J.F. LIVELY, JR., marked on the back MOM + PUNKY and stamped MEXICO. Definitely mission-worn.
    - Two aerial photographs taken on missions, one marked AUSBURG.
    - Eight photographs showing Lively, one showing his crew and others of him on base with friends near or next to planes.
    - Lively’s original RESTRICTED marked Air Medal citation, extremely rare to find and just as rare as the medal itself, though the medal is not present.

Joseph Frank Lively Jr. was born on July 30th, 1920 in Fort Worth, Texas. He appears to have been commissioned a Lieutenant in June 1944, and likely arrived in Europe in early 1945. In newspaper articles, we found that Lively was awarded up to three oak leaf clusters to his air medal. He arrived back in the U.S. on September 10th, 1945. He passed away on February 24th, 2002 in Dallas, at the age of 81.

An outstanding grouping with great provenance, ready for display.
