  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a good WWII enlisted uniform worn by a Sergeant Communications Specialistin the 9th Air Force Airborne Troop Carrier. All U.S. tactical air support units in Great Britain were consolidated into the Ninth Air Force on 16 October 1943, under the command of Maj. Gen. Lewis H. Brereton. At the same time the IX Troop Carrier Command was activated, having been constituted by USAAF Headquarters five days before the headquarters of IX TCC transferred to Grantham where it remained until 20 September 1944, when it transferred to Ascot, Berkshire, its final location in Europe. Its first headquarters was located at RAF Cottesmore, where it took control of a provisional headquarters established by the Eighth Air Force in September.

The uniform jacket has an Airborne Troop Carrier patch on the left shoulder, Sergeant chevrons on both sleeves, three overseas stripes and two service stripes on the left cuff, a bullion 9th Air Force patch on the right shoulder with a separate Airborne rocker above it, and a Communications Specialist badge on the right cuff. There are US & AAF Collar discs, a Ruptured duck discharge badge over the right breast pocket, and a 3-place ribbon bar over the left breast pocket with the Good Conduct medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with four campaign stars, and the American Campaign medal. Over this is a set of Sterling Aircrew wings. The jacket is size marked 36L. There was a WWII Victory ribbon in the pocket.

The accompanying shirt actually has a set of cloth aircrew wings stitched over the left breast pocket, so this is certainly a matching set! The shirt is size-marked 14 ½ - 34.

A great uniform set, ready for further research and display.
