Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is an extremely scarce Landing Information Sheet used by men of the 5th Marine Division for the landing on Iwo Jima.

The sheet details 19 items that inform the invasion force what to do in different situations. Such as Who do I report to my NCO or officer? What equipment am I responsible for taking ashore? What unit is to be on my left and right? What is my initial objective zone of action? My assigned boat or LVT number? What time does my wave hit the beach? What security measures / conditions will exist at night? The sheet is marked SECRET in red ink and NOT TO BE TAKEN ASHORE ON D-DAY.

On the back side is a map of Iwo Jima with landing areas of the north and south beaches. The sheet measures 14 x 9½" and is in great condition with just basic folding marks. Someone, possibly the Marine, inscribed the following information on the top of the landing information sheet side:

H-Hour 9AM

This is in reference to their D-Day Mission. On February 19, 1945, The Spearhead Marines landed on Iwo’s eastern beaches under the guns of the mountain fortress, Mt. Suribachi.

The D-Day mission was to cross the neck of Iwo Jima, cut off Mt. Suribachi, secure the southern end of Motoyama Airfield #1, and begin the drive northward on the wide western beaches. Advancing rapidly over the volcanic ash beaches in the face of savage resistance, the 5th Division accomplished this mission. On their right flank, the 4th Marine Division was ashore in strength and was prepared to secure the airstrip and the high ground north of the landing beaches by the end of D-day. By nightfall the two Marine Divisions were firmly ashore which assured that the island would eventually be taken.

This is a fantastic example of an extremely scarce document, ready to be framed and displayed!
