  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the extensive medal & research group of Sergeant Charles K. Oxley, Anti-Tank Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, who was wounded in action in Italy on December 22nd, 1944. This outstanding grouping consists of 10 medals including an official government replacement Purple Heart & Bronze Star Medal, both government-engraved to Oxley, and his original WWII Soldier’s Medal, rim-numbered 2185. The group also comes with several re-printed photos of Oxley with small display pieces.

The citation for his Soldier’s Medal reads:

On the morning of February 20th, 1944, when German bombardment set fire to three one-and-one half prime movers loaded with ammunition in an assembly area, Pvt. Oxley immediately jumped on one vehicle and began throwing burning ammunition off in an effort to halt the blaze and save the truck. Unable to extinguish the flames, he ran to a nearby quarter-ton truck and drove it from the danger area. Returning to the damaged prime mover, he attempted but was unable to move it from its position 40 feet from other blazing vehicles. His fearless efforts and disregard of exploding ammunition and flying debris helped to save vital fighting equipment.
