Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII Issue "Packing box M1917" ammunition crate for Ball .30-06 cartridges in cartons, as used by most of the long rifles and machine guns fielded by the U.S. during WWII. The front of the crate still bears the original stenciled packing information:
1500 CARTRIDGES
BALL
CALIBER .30 M2
IN CLIPS IN CARTONS
AMMUNITION LOT NUMBER
FRANKFORD ARSENAL 31
The box measures 18¼ x 9¼ x 14½” and is constructed using rabbet joint corners. It is painted brown with a large red stripe on all sides, indicating mid war production, with the markings stenciled in yellow, and bears the ordnance "flaming bomb" on the front and right sides. There is no longer a metal liner inside.
Overall condition is very good, showing wear commensurate with age and service. It still retains two of the threaded posts on the top to attach the lid, with the other four missing. Comes ready for further research and display.
