Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a small 29th Infantry Division ephemera group identified to Technician 5th Grade Ernest L. Martin, serial number 20365034. In July 1944, Martin was wounded by artillery shell fragments in the wrist and leg. The group includes his “D-Day to St. Lo” certificate, denoting that he was with the division on D-Day and served with it continuously until the capture of St. Lo on July 18th, 1944.
The group includes:
- Unengraved Purple Heart & Bronze Star Medals.
- “D-Day to St. Lo” certificate, 6 x 6½”.
- 29th ID Christmas card written to sister.
- 1972 Memorial card of Martin, died May 15th, 1972.
- 5 Original photographs showing Martin in theater, two of which show him on his motorcycle “Miss Lois” wearing his leather kidney belt. There is another photo of a destroyed bunker, and him using binoculars. There is a reprinted photo of him on his motorcycle and a later photo of him in a car.
