Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a German Luftwaffe photo album that was captured by Technical Sergeant Milton A. Wyatt, 332nd Engineer General Service Regiment, 9th Army. While with the 9th Army, Wyatt served alongside many soldiers of the 29th Infantry Division, and a great many of his photographs are of men from the 29th, with a gorgeous patch of the 29th affixed to the interior cover. The album measures roughly 7 x 10” and the back cover is close to coming off from heavy wear.
The album contains roughly 123 photographs, with some being period reproductions from newspapers, but many being original photos taken by Wyatt. There are also some newspaper clippings at the end of the scrapbook, with another on the interior cover which mentions Wyatt having been injured in France on September 4th. There are many photographs of Paris, a great deal of photos of crashed and non-crashed German and American aircraft, with one great shot of a U.S. Bomber’s nose-art, “Little Audrey”. In some shots, you can even spot the 29th Infantry Division insignia painted on some soldiers’ M1 Helmets, boy would those be worth a pretty penny today!
Other photos show Wyatt on a motorcycle, some others show him surrounded by crates and crates of ordnance, and one great photo shows him in front of his unit’s HQ Sign, for the 332nd Engineer G.S. Regiment. His Army Service Forces Port of Embarkation certificate is pasted into one of the pages. There is just so much great material in this scrapbook.
A Fantastic captured Luftwaffe scrapbook, with over 100 photos showing the service of Milton, along with some 29th ID Soldiers he came across. Ready for further research and display!
The older albums such as these usually withstand the ravages of time. The leather or fabric covers may wear, but the pages stay well intact. The black paper albums of the early 20th century are more fragile, while the glue from magnetic albums can damage photographs. And, as with all old photographs, keep albums in a safe, climate controlled environment.
