Original Item: One-of-a-Kind. This is a very attractive original 1941-dated vehicle identification or license-style plate associated with the U.S. Army 29th Infantry Division, famously known as the “Blue and Gray” Division. Measuring approximately 2½ x 11⅝ inches, the plate is painted gray with blue lettering and incorporates the distinctive 29th Division insignia, creating an especially appropriate visual representation of the division’s historic nickname.

The license plate bears the insignia of the division with a vertical 41 to the left for the year 1941, and the number 479 at the right end. There are two horizontal holes for attachment.

The combination of the 1941 date, Blue and Gray color scheme, original 29th Infantry Division insignia, and individually numbered 479 marking makes this an unusual piece of pre-entry WWII 29th Division material. Its precise issuing body remains unidentified, but the plate provides a particularly attractive representation of the division at the beginning of its federal WWII service.
