Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. In the United States Military, a guidon is a military standard that company/battery/troop or platoon-sized detachments carry to signify their unit designation and branch/corps affiliation or the title of the individual who carries it. A basic guidon can be rectangular, but more often has a triangular portion removed from the fly (known as "swallow-tailed").
This is a great WWII guidon, measuring 19 x 27” overall, for the 1st Battalion Headquarters, 22nd Field Artillery. During World War II, this unit was the 22d Armored Field Artillery Battalion. During this time, the battalion participated in the invasion of Normandy, the effort in Northern France, the campaign in the Ardennes-Alsace (the Battle of the Bulge), and the effort in Central Europe.
The guidon features crossed cannons under 22 and over 1HQ for 1st Battalion Headquarters. There is no tag in the header, but the leather tabs are still retained, although one shows very heavy wear.
