Original U.S. WWII 22nd Bomb Group Red Raiders A-2 Flight Jacket - Named to Lt. Posselt

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Lieutenant Theodore K Posselt Army Serial Number 16009002 hailed from Columbia County, Wisconsin and enlisted on April 14th, 1941. He served as a Navigator, Co-Pilot and eventually Pilot and flew on various planes including B-26 Marauders and B-24 Liberators. He spent the majority of the war in New Guinea and Australia making bomb runs with the 22nd Bomb Group targeting Japanese targets throughout the Pacific.

This excellent size 38 jacket features a vibrant painting on the reverse of the 22nd Bombardment Group Insignia which they used from 1944-1945 when flying B-24 Liberators. The excellent green and red painted insignia depicts a bearded viking with a winged helmet with RED RAIDERS underneath.  On the left shoulder is a rare theater made (Australia) embroidered 5th Air Force patch. The front bears an embossed leather name tag that reads LT. T.K. POSSELT. Interestingly there is another name tag beneath the flap of the right front pocket. This tag is cotton with black ink block letters and reads POSSELT. The ghost stitching of a missing squadron patch beneath the name tag is evident. Jacket has leather Lieutenant rank bars in silver paint on each shoulder. Clean maker tag inside reads:
