Original Items: Only One Available. This is an excellent Captain’s overseas cap, often referred to as a Side Cap or “Garrison Cover”. A side cap is a military cap that can be folded flat when not being worn. It is also known as a garrison cap or flight cap in the United States, wedge cap in Canada, or field service cap in the United Kingdom; or in vulgar slang as a cunt cap. In form the side cap is comparable to the glengarry, a folding version of the Scottish military bonnet. It has been associated with various military forces since the middle of the 19th century, as well as various civilian organizations.
This example in OD Green features the distinctive white piping with red/blue stripes of the First Special Service Force, sewn on with the correct OD green thread. The front of the cap bears a pinback silver Captain's insignia on the left side, which looks to have been with the cap for some time. The interior of the cap is lined with OD green rayon, and features a leather sweatband around the entire circumference. There is a small 7 size tag visible, and under the sweatband is the original label identifying the cap as a Cap, Garrison, Wool, Elastique, O. D., Dark, Warrant Officers in Size 7.
