Mallamas was a well known Raider, having served as former President of the Edson’s Raider Veteran’s Association. What makes this grouping outstanding is the overwhelming amount of research that is included. This grouping is accompanied with an impressive amount of research, consisting of a binder filled with copies and original documents from Mallamas’ service during WWII, veteran’s reunions, and so on.

In addition to the binder, two published works are included with the grouping;

A Marine’s Letters: A Love Story (When Life Was Real) by Gloria Mallamas, and Once a Legend: “Red Mike” Edson of the Marine Raiders by Jon. T. Hoffman. The first work was a collection of Mallamas’ letters to his wife, Gloria. It also includes numerous photographs and short anecdotal stories as told by James Mallamas from his time of service during WWII. The work is extensive to say the least, and offers a glimpse into Mallamas’ life from birth to death. Once a Legend which has an inscription from the author to Mallamas thanking him for his assistance in writing the book.

Mallamas’ Forest Green Dress Uniform Coat is contract dated April 25, 1944. It is an interesting unique tailor modified piece which appears to have been converted from a four-pocket coat into a short Vandegrift style jacket. It is named to Mallamas inside the armpit.
