  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind set. This uniform belonged to Private First Class Frank Cothran (955893), Weapons Company, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division who served at Peleliu and Okinawa. The uniform jacket is 1944-dated, is a size 4M and is complete with EGA's 1st MD Guadalcanal patch, medal ribbons including the Asiatic–Pacific Campaign with two campaign stars, French fourragere, and named to Cothran in two locations. All of the patches are machine sewn. The ribbons are pin-backed. The 1943-dated trousers are marked a size 4M and also named to Cothran.

    The uniform comes with copies of Cothran's USMC Muster Roll entries. The records verify that he enlisted in April 1944. He joined Headquarters and Service Company and Weapons Company, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division at Peleliu on October 2, 1944. He also participated in the Okinawa campaign and had occupation duty in China with the same unit after the war.

    After the outbreak of war, the 5th Marines deployed to Wellington, New Zealand in June 1942. During World War II they fought on Guadalcanal, New Britain, Eastern New Guinea, Peleliu and Okinawa.
