Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely "Jonny Box" style cigarette case, made of what looks to be translucent "ivoroid" plastic. This design was intended for the standard 70mm unfiltered cigarettes of the time, and is most likely made of an early plastic material such as celluloid or possibly acrylic.

One side of the case has a maroon painted raised area which reads:

INTERNATIONAL
MILITARY-TRIBUNAL
- 1945 -
NÜRNBERG
GERMANY

The other side is marked with the iconic Red 1 on an OD green shield, the Divisional Insignia for the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, "The Big Red One." This division saw extensive service during WWII, and is the oldest continually serving division in the U.S. Army, having been in service continuously since 1917.

Most likely some smaller units from the 1st were on duty as security around the Nuremberg War Tribunal, which was taking place only about 6 months after the end of the war. While thoroughly defeated, there was always the chance of some kind of attack being launched on the site, where many important German leaders and military commanders were being put on trial.

The case measures approximately 3"H x 2 3/8"W x 1", and is in very good condition, especially considering the age. There is some cracking around the corners and the joint with the lid, as the older plastics become brittle with age. The lid still comes off easily. We do not know if this was a U.S. manufactured item, and we suspect these were made in Germany to cater to U.S. serviceman in the area.

Included in the case is a pack of unopened “Marvels” brand filterless cigarettes which was issued to U.S. troops during WWII.

Idiot Clause - the contents of this pack are pre-1945 manufacture and are NOT suitable for consumption. They are being sold as novelty collector pieces only. Even though some people on YouTube have tried.
