Original U.S. WWII 1944 Framed “Careless Talk… Got There First” OWI Propaganda Poster - 23¾ x 31½”

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. During World War II, the US government drew on the expertise of the advertising industry to help craft messages for the American public. In early 1942, representatives of Washington's newly-created propaganda agency, the Office of Facts and Figures (OFF), asked a Madison Avenue advertising agency to help create effective posters for the war effort. The advertising agency commissioned a report that it shared with the OFF. Among the crucial questions the ad men addressed was whether the posters had emotional appeal for the audience. "THE MOST EFFECTIVE war posters appeal to the emotions. No matter how beautiful the art work, how striking the colors, how clever the idea, unless a war poster appeals to a basic human emotion in both picture and text, it is not likely to make a deep impression."

This poignant poster graphically portraying a possible result of someone's thoughtless talk, is the work of Herbert Morton Stoops. Mr Stoops, a battery commander in the last war, has won eminence as an artist in the field of military activity, and holds many awards for his portrayals of the American scene. This great example is framed and is in great overall condition, with just basic fold creases. The frame is a bit big for the poster, so it could either be re-framed or just centered better.

The frame measures 23¾ x 31½” and is in great shape overall. An exceedingly scarce poster, ready for further research and display.
