  • Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a lovely U.S. WWII issue Mess Kit or "Meat Can",  made up of the correct steel plate, lower bowl and foldout handle marked U.S. / M.A. Co. / 1944. It comes complete with the correct U.S. Issue knife and fork. It is in very good shape considering what it has been through, with just some light oxidation in places.

The back of the lower bowl was personalized by the owner during WWII, making this a great piece of WWII "Trench Art." It reads (as far as we can tell):

    Pvt. Harrell George
    Co. A. 28th Infantry
    Survived St Vith * * + + +
    Holding at Bastogne
    Christmas 1944
    God is my Hope.

This is a fantastic piece of WWII memorabilia, as well as a great research opportunity. The 28th Infantry division was definitely in the Bastogne area during the Battle of the bulge, and took part in heavy fighting.
