Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the extensive uniform grouping of Staff Sergeant Bruce M. Ferrell, 321st Bombardment Group, 57th Bombardment Wing, 12th Air Force. During the war, Farrell flew 26 combat missions in the European Theater as a tail gunner and part-time navigator aboard a B-25 Mitchell. The group includes his Ike Jacket with a fantastic bullion 12th AF patch and bullion Aerial Gunner wings.
The grouping includes:
- Farrell’s “Ike” Jacket with a gorgeous bullion 12th Air Force patch on the left shoulder, Sergeant chevrons on each sleeve, and US & AAF collar insignia. Over the left breast pocket is a gorgeous set of Bullion Aerial Gunner wings stitched on, and under this is a 3-place ribbon bar with the Air Medal with 2 OLC, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with 3 campaign stars. The name Farrell, B.M. is stenciled under the collar, next to size marking 35R.
- Farrell’s uniform jacket with an AAF patch on the left shoulder, 12th Air Force patch on the right shoulder, Ruptured Duck discharge chevron over the right breast pocket, Staff Sergeant chevrons on both sleeves, and US & AAF Collar discs. The size marking 35R is visible under the collar with some other voided markings.
- Farrell’s uniform trousers in good overall condition.
- Three Garrison caps, one with red piping, one with red and white piping, one with gold and blue piping. The gold & blue piping is for the Army Air Corps, so this was likely his cap, but the other two are likely not.
- 33 x 33” 12th Air Force table cloth or “blanket” with names of nose art across, a very interesting piece.
- Aviation Pillow case for the Aviation Cadet Center at San Antonio, Texas.
- Air Medal & Good Conduct Medal in unmarked presentation case.
- Bag of miscellaneous insignia including 2 ribbon bars, Captain’s bars, and patches, likely not relevant to the group.
- 100+ printed pages of research related to the War Diaries of the Bombardment groups with Farrell’s name highlighted where it appears. Each page is within a plastic binder sleeve. Some bits include the card showing his awarding of the Air Medal with 6 OLCs, his obituary, and some great photos of him.
