Item Description

Original Items. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous 101st Airborne grouping with some fantastic unpublished photographs, belonging to Sergeant Robert Wilson, 33625889, 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.

The group includes:

- 22 Original unpublished photographs, most with inscriptions and dates on the back, most from training. There are 12 small photos taken of men parachuting, the plane they jumped from, the view outside of the plane, and a photo of his C.O. recording which men jumped for credit. Some of the inscriptions are truly amazing. There’s a photo of gliders, two of tanks with one overturned, a photo of wrecked gliders in a field. There’s a great photo of him after landing posed with his rifle, dated November 23rd, 1943. The best two photographs are one of captured German prisoners dated December 3rd, 1944, and one of two Paratroopers with their flag armbands, named Larivey and Jones D-Day on the back. This is a fantastic original unpublished photograph taken on D-Day.
- 101st Airborne NCO School Certificate named to Sgt. Robert Wilson, completed on September 15th, 1945. Measures 8¼ x 10⅝” and has fold marks.
- Interesting white scarf with a very small 101st Airborne patch sewn on. Measures 10 x 40”.
- Heavily worn red Paratrooper parachute garrison cap patch, a bit bent.
- Red and blue Paratrooper Glider garrison cap patch, some fraying.
- Heavily worn 17th Airborne Division patch, some fraying.
- Meritorious Service Wreath patch with bullion wreath, 2 x 2”.

Robert Wilson was born on September 30th, 1923 in Muncy, Pennsylvania. He first entered the service on May 20th, 1943, likely volunteering for Paratrooper service. He travled overseas on May 17th, 1944, seeing combat in many of the campaigns of the 327th GIR. He returned stateside on December 2nd, 1945, being discharged on December 7th. He passed away on March 13th, 1990, at the age of 66.

This is a fantastic group with some great unpublished photographs, ready for further research and display.
