Original U.S. WWII 101st Airborne Division Embroidered Rare Variation Shoulder Patch

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Extremely rare WWII 101st Airborne Division Patch with machine embroidered '101' in filled-in section between patch and tab. This hard to find SSI has a very heavy white cotton reverse and is in very good condition. An illustration of a nearly identical patch can be found on page 68 Emblems Of Honor - Airborne by Kurt Keller. This patch is missing from most serious 101st Airborne Collections. Does not glow under a black-light which means it is pre-1945 production.

Established in 1918, the 101st Division was first constituted as an Airborne unit in 1942. During World War II, it was renowned for its role in Operation Overlord (the D-Day landings and airborne landings on 6 June 1944, in Normandy, France), Operation Market Garden, the liberation of the Netherlands and its action during the Battle of the Bulge around the city of Bastogne, Belgium.
