  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind Set. The 377th Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. A parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, the regiment's 2nd Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 11th Airborne Division. Elements of the regiment have also served with the 101st Airborne Division and 82nd Airborne Division, and have seen service in World War II, Vietnam, and in both Iraq and Afghanistan during the Global War on Terror.

This is an outstanding uniform set attribute to Sergeant Tom Splan of the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. On Fold3, there was a story including Splan on the veteran page for Private Paul Tertychny, reading:

“On New Year's Eve, on the north perimeter of Bastogne, PVT Tertychny & Tom Splan had taken up forward observation positions to the south of Monaville, Belgium. As they radioed for fire support on an approaching German tank, a nearby friendly machinegun crew from the 502nd IN opened fire on it, causing the tank to fire a main gun round into PVT Tertychny's position, killing him outright, and badly wounding Splan.”

The uniform jacket has a 101st Airborne Division patch on the left shoulder, a 1st Allied Airborne patch on the right shoulder, Sergeant chevrons on both sleeves, two overseas stripes and a service stripe on the left cuff, US & Field Artillery collar discs, and two great pinback DI insignia for the 377th PFAB on the collar. There is a Dutch WWII Order of the Orange Lanyard as Awarded to U.S. Paratroopers for Operation Market Garden on the left shoulder. There is a Presidential unit citation over the right breast pocket, and three ribbons over the right breast pocket including the Purple Heart Medal, the Good conduct medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with two campaign stars and an invasion arrowhead, though there was originally a third star on the ribbon that is now gone. Over this is a set of Paratrooper wings holding in an airborne oval which appears to be white, red, and black, denoting Airborne Command. The oval is not stitched at all and is only held in by the wings. There is a size stamp, 36R, under the collar. There are two laundry numbers written on the interior, neither of which match Splan.

Also included is his garrison cap which is a lovely dark green with red piping for artillery, a Paratrooper/Glider Airborne patch on the left side, and another 377th PFAB DI on the right side. It is maker-marked to GEMSCO. The cap is size-marked 7 1/8. The uniform is named via a note in the pocket which names his unit and mentions that he was wounded in action at the Bulge.

This is a tremendous 101st Airborne jacket with a great attribution, ready for further research and display!
