  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the modest uniform group of Corporal Joseph Mark Lynch, who served with the 101st Airborne Division as well as Airborne Command during World War II. Previous research denotes that he may have served with the 502nd PIR, but we haven’t found any concrete evidence of this. The group includes his patched uniform jacket as well as his piped garrison cap with a paratrooper patch.

The jacket bears an Airborne Command patch on the left shoulder, a 101st Airborne patch and rocker on the right shoulder, two overseas stripes on the left cuff, Corporal chevrons on both sleeves, and US & Infantry Collar insignia. There is a ruptured duck honorable discharge patch above the right breast pocket, and there is a Combat Infantryman Badge on the left breast pocket. Above the pocket is a 3-place ribbon bar with the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four campaign stars. Above this is a set of Sterling paratrooper wings.

The interior of the jacket is marked in several places with Lynch’s laundry number, L5366, which aligns with his serial number, 17025366. This fully identifies the set to Lynch. His garrison cap is also stamped on the interior with his laundry number.

Joseph Mark Lynch was born on February 22nd, 1922 in Tyrone, Minnesota. He enlisted on March 21st, 1941, eventually volunteering for the Paratroopers. He spent over a year in Europe and saw four major campaigns. He returned home and passed away on January 13th, 1980 at the age of 57.

This is a tremendous group worthy of further research. We have done some preliminary work on Lynch, but there’s still much to be done. Comes ready to display!
