Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the lovely uniform grouping of Private Raymond Edward Freddo Jr., Company A, 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. Freddo was awarded the Bronze Star Medal via the 101st Airborne General Order #65.
The group includes:
- Freddo’s Ike uniform jacket with with a 101st Airborne patch and rocker on the left shoulder, five overseas stripes on the left cuff, US & Field Artillery collar discs with 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion Distinctive Insignia below them, and a Dutch Order of the Orange Lanyard as Awarded to U.S. Paratroopers for Operation Market Garden on the left shoulder. Above the right breast pocket is a Presidential Unit Citation with a frame and above that is a Ruptured Duck honorable discharge patch. Above the left breast pocket is a great set of Sterling marked Glider wings, with a campaign star attached to the front, often done by Paratroopers, and below that is a 5-place ribbon bar with the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with four campaign stars and an invasion arrowhead, and the Belgian Croix de Guerre with an oak leaf device. On the interior, the name FREDDO is written under the collar, and there is a size tag, 40R.
- Freddo’s uniform shirt & tie. Shirt is sized 15½ / 33. The tie is named to another soldier.
Raymond Edward Freddo was born on January 16th, 1923 in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. He first entered the service on January 27th, 1943, Serial number 33410135, being assigned to Company A, 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. Freddo trained for several months, traveling overseas on September 5th, 1943. Freddo would see every bit of combat with the 321st, landing on D-Day and fighting through France & Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in General Order #65 and returned to the US on November 15th, 1945, being discharged on November 19th. He passed away on September 25th, 2003 at the age of 80.
