Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good original U.S. WWI Trench Periscope No. 10, Model 1918, manufactured by Wollensak Optical Company of Rochester, New York, and accompanied by its original leather carrying case. Measuring approximately 19⅝ inches long, this compact optical instrument was designed to allow observation from behind trench parapets, earthworks, and other cover without requiring the user to expose his head and upper body to enemy fire.
The bottom of the periscope still has the manufacturer’s markings:

Still providing a fair image, the lenses are needing a good internal clean however it is still usable. The eye cup is still present, and in great shape, and the focus diopter works correctly.
The leather carry case is still quite solid with the carrying strap now entirely absent. There is no maker mark but there are inspector’s initial stamps, T.T.W. / W.K.. The case has some tears as well as heavy cracking and crazing.
Condition overall is worn, but the original paint is mostly retained, with some of the brass visible underneath.
The combination of the clearly marked Model 1918 Trench Periscope No. 10, X7.5 optical specification, Wollensak Optical Company manufacture, serial number 7440, surviving original finish, functioning focus adjustment, and original leather case makes this a particularly complete example of American trench-observation equipment from the First World War.
