Original U.S. WWI WWII Browning M1917 MG Wood Ammunition Box

Original Item: One only. This is a great example of the hard to find U.S. Browning M1917 & M1917A1 water-cooled Machine Gun Ammunition box. As originally constructed, these had a hinged lid with inset leather carry handle and spring loaded closing/locking latch. This example unfortunately has lost the leather handle over the decades since it was made.
These were originally produced in plain wood finish, however this example was given a light coat of OD green paint sometime during its service life. The box design has two machined slots and slanted front corner for mounting directly to the tripod mount. The inside still retains the three stenciled bullet diagrams on the floor of the box to remind the packer which way the bullet heads must point when inserting a loaded belt, though they are somewhat faded.
