Original Item: Only One Available. This trench periscope is an authentic and invaluable tool from the First World War, which played an essential role in trench warfare. It has been repainted, likely by a reenactor. The periscope is accompanied by its original adjustable leg, but the belt clip is gone.
The periscope is an optical device that employs two opposing glass mirrors, one at the top and one at the bottom, held in a wooden case that is secured by twisted wire. Although its design is fairly basic, it was a cost-effective and efficient tool that could be mass-produced during its time. The utilization of this device was instrumental in various fields, and its simple construction allowed for widespread use.
The periscope appears to be in good condition, with the mirrors exhibiting great shape, albeit with some scratches, dust and dirt accumulation. The wooden housing has been entirely repainted in the original color, with the paint covering some areas of wood loss as shown. The belt hook is entirely absent if there ever was one at all. The length of the periscope measures just above 14 inches.
This is a rare and genuine example from the Great War that is ready to be displayed or even used.
