Item Description
Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the gorgeous uniform grouping of a First Sergeant serving with the 2nd Battalion, 310th Engineer Regiment, who saw combat in the St. Mihiel & Meuse-Argonne Offensives as well as the Defensive Sector. The uniform is a lovely private-purchase example and is double-patched, with a lovely velvet-backed VII Corps patch on the left shoulder, and a small 3rd Army patch sewn above the overseas chevrons.
Only the 2nd Battalion, 310th Engineers were attached to VII Corps as Engineer troops, as the 1st Battalion was chosen to accompany the 339th Infantry Regiment in the North Russian Expedition via Archangel.
The uniform jacket bears the two aforementioned patches, two overseas chevrons on the left sleeve, a scarce First Sergeant rate on the right sleeve (Three chevrons and one diamond), US & Engineer Collar insignia, a 3-star Victory Medal ribbon above the left breast pocket, and a Leechburg, Pennsylvania Victory medal on the left breast pocket. With this information, one could likely identify the uniform to a First Sergeant of one of the few companies in the 2nd Battalion, 310th Engineers, who lived in the vicinity of Leechburg, Pennsylvania.
The uniform is in great condition and displays very well. Also included are his breeches, also made by the same private tailor, with its original belt, USQMC marked.
Double-patched uniforms from the First World War are very difficult to come by, especially to combat veterans. Comes ready for further research and display.
