Original U.S. WWI Verdun Artillery Shell Trench Art Lot - 3 Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 3 Available. Trench art is any decorative item made by soldiers, prisoners of war, or civilians where the manufacture is directly linked to armed conflict or its consequences. It offers an insight not only to their feelings and emotions about the war, but also their surroundings and the materials they had available to them.

Not limited to the World Wars, the history of trench art spans conflicts from the Napoleonic Wars to the present day. Although the practice flourished during World War I, the term 'trench art' is also used to describe souvenirs manufactured by service personnel during World War II. Some items manufactured by soldiers, prisoners of war or civilians during earlier conflicts have been retrospectively described as trench art.

All items are completely inert and are in compliance with the current BATF standards on inert ordnance

The Items Featured:
- Meuse-Argonne “Montfaucon” 75mm: This casing is marked 75 DE C on the bottom, indicating they are for the Canon 75 de Campagne, also known as the Canon de 75 modèle 1897. The base of the shell is a lovely crimped design and the main body has the word Montfaucon bordered by vines. 13 ½” tall.
- German 7.7mm: The shell has an extremely beautiful flower scene with what appears to be dragonflies present. 9” tall.
- “Verdun” Marked 75mm Shell Casing: This example is dull and tarnished but with a little bit of cleaning all markings would be clear as day again! We can make out Verdun 1914, 1916 Marne, “Souvenir” and what appears to be a cottage scene. 11 ⅝” tall.

All examples are lovely and ready to be polished and displayed!
