Original Items. Only One Group Available. This is a good United States Marine Corps “Forest Green” P1917 uniform set worn by a Marine during the WWI period. The set consists of P1917 jacket & trousers, the trousers being dated 1918-19, an issue shirt, and a high quality reproduction M1917 Forest Green Bell Crown visor cap.
In the early 1900s, the Marine Corps added service uniforms for work and field use, replacing the “undress” uniform category used in the Civil War. The Marine Corps initially had both summer and winter service uniforms, but by the time the U.S. entered WWI, the Forest Green colored winter service uniform had become the standard field and combat uniform for both hot and cold climates.
The P1917 uniform is in great shape with no insignia minus a sterling Marksman bar over the left breast pocket. There are no collar discs and no holes for them, and on the interior armpit is a Marine Quartermaster stamp, which is now too faded to read. In the interior right armpit is a name, R.D. STEWART, for Ralph D. Stewart who enlisted on June 4th, 1918 and remained stateside during the war.
The hooks & loops on the collar are retained. The trousers are in similar great condition with US MARINE CORPS buttons and a retained Marine Quartermaster stamp dated 1918-19. The included pullover shirt is in good shape overall without any defects.
As mentioned, the bell crown visor is entirely reproduction, but is a very high quality reproduction and will display well with the group.
