Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a standard M1910 aluminum canteen made in 1918 and stamped on the reverse U.S. ACA 1918.
However, this is not just an ordinary canteen but a canvas for a very skilled (and bored) engraver (soldier) who had lots of down time in the trenches during the Great War. The front side reads:
BELLE NUIT
It features a naked woman laying down provocatively, a bottle of wine and an empty glass. The reverse shows the keystone symbol of the 28th infantry division, the Masonic symbol, a private’s chevron and there interconnected rings.
A lovely genuine piece of trench art created during the monotonous hours of down time in the trenches during World War I.
