Original Item, Only One Available. A fantastic Great War United States Food Administration poster designed by the artist William McKee. The poster is in very good condition with vibrant colors and typical edge wear. It measures 30" x 20". It reads;

This is a take off on the well known painting The Spirit of 76; by Archibald Willard.
In order the mobilize the American people in support of the war effort organizations such as the Food Administration led by Herbert Hoover were created. The Committee of Public Information led by George Creel created propaganda to advertise the need to ration food and participate in "Meatless Tuesdays" and "Wheatless Wednesdays." Hoover relied on volunteers rather than forcing citizens to ration food and plant victory gardens. However, most citizens did participate which increased the "spirit" or patriotism during the war. Farm production increased by 1/4 during the war; therefore, exports to the Allies nearly tripled. Hoover's efforts to ration food led to other similar organizations such as the Fuel Administration which enforced rationing of fuel through participation in "Heatless Mondays." In addition, through the sale of liberty loans and war bonds etc (which were also advertised via propaganda) raised a total of about $21 billion which was 2/3 of the cost of war.
