Original Items. Only One Group Available. This is an extensive assembled set of original U.S. WWI rifleman’s field equipment, incorporating a 1918-dated M1910 cartridge belt, 1918 M1910 haversack, M1910 entrenching tool and cover, first aid pouch and dressing, canteen equipment, mess accessories, and a period blanket. The set presents very well as a nearly complete Doughboy field rig, with the principal later component being the WWII-era pack carrier attached to the haversack.
The set consists of:
- M1910 Haversack in good shape with attached WWII pack tail. Haversack is marked for Perkins 1918. This pack tail is the only part of the belt rig that is WWII.
- M1910 meat can pouch with first aid kit, knife in sleeve and spoon, condiment tin, and foot powder tin.
- M1910 Cartridge belt by LONG dated April 1918.
- M1910 canteen with cover with ONE SNAP BROKEN OFF OF COVER. Cover comes with canteen and cup in fair shape. Cover is missing one snap.
- First Aid pouch by Perkins Campbell dated October 1918, with Johnson & Johnson 1917 dated first aid dressing in cardboard package.
- M-1910 Entrenching Tool with WWI Canvas Cover. E Tool shows heavy wear and oxidation. Cover is stenciled for 349th Infantry.
- Blanket which appears to be WWI period.
The M1910 equipment system was designed to distribute the infantryman’s ammunition, food, water, entrenching equipment, and personal necessities across an interconnected field rig. The haversack carried the soldier’s mess equipment, rations, clothing, and other necessities, while the cartridge belt supported ammunition and suspended equipment such as the canteen and first aid pouch. The entrenching tool was carried against the rear of the haversack beneath the meat can pouch and pack carrier.
The combination of the April 1918 LONG cartridge belt, Perkins 1918 haversack, WWII pack carrier, mess accessories, M1910 canteen and cup, Perkins Campbell October 1918 first aid pouch, 1917 Johnson & Johnson dressing, heavily service-worn M1910 entrenching tool, 349th Infantry-marked cover, and period-appearing blanket makes this an especially substantial U.S. WWI field-equipment display. The broken canteen-cover snap, heavy wear and oxidation to the entrenching tool, and later WWII pack carrier are the principal condition and period-mixing considerations, while the extensive assortment of original WWI components gives the set considerable value as a representative Doughboy rifleman’s rig.
