  • Original Item: Only Set Available. This is a lovely US WWI Victory Medal lot which features two different examples of Navy Victory medals with clasps.

The medals themselves are in good condition but do exhibit tarnishing. The ribbons are worn but that wear accentuates the authenticity of the awards.

    The Battle Clasps Featured Are:
    - Mobile Base - For service on tenders and repair vessels on such duty east of the 37th meridian and north of the Equator between 06 April 1917, to 11 Nov. 1918. This example is in great shape with minor fraying. 3,646 were issued.
    - Naval Battery - For service on such duty from 10 July 1918 to 11 Nov. 1918. This is an extremely rare clasp as some of these men were used on railroad artillery in France during World War I, seeing combat in the Meuse-Argonne. Only 817 of this clasp were awarded, making it extremely rare.

The World War I Victory Medal (known prior to establishment of the World War II Victory Medal in 1945 simply as the Victory Medal) was a United States service medal designed by James Earle Fraser of New York City under the direction of the Commission of Fine Arts.
