Original U.S. WWI Named 325th Field Artillery Battalion Complete M1917 Doughboy Helmet - Sergeant Joseph A. Soberg

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic genuine Great War hand painted AEF France 325th Field Artillery Battalion helmet. The best features of the helmet is all the stenciling done on the exterior of the helmet. The stenciling states: FRANCE A.E.F. U.S.A. with 325 F.A. BTRY E.

The paint is somewhat worn, and definitely shows use, but it has a great look and the colors are still easily discernible. The interior of the helmet has little of the original paint present. The underside of the rim is stamped 199 ZD indicating it was produced in the United States, and can be seen on the underside of the skirt towards the front though it is difficult to read. The solid rivets on the chin strap bales is another method of identifying the helmet as being American made. The liner and chinstrap is present and in worn but solid condition. The liner still retains the original top felt pad with the paper label. The inside of the oilcloth is the Army serial number 2143505. This number identifies the soldier as Sergeant Joseph Arnold Soberg, a first generation American born from Norwegian parents. He enlisted in the Army on September 6, 1917 and received an honorable discharge on January 16, 1919. He served with the 338th Field Artillery Regiment, 325th Battalion Battery A.

A wonderful totally original helmet shell with genuine original paint! Ready to display!
