Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a Model 1917 C.T. Bolo manufactured by American Cutlery Company of Chicago, Illinois. This model was a moderate simplification of the earlier 1910 Bolo made by Springfield Armory. The main difference is the lack of the catch mechanism on the scabbard and grip. It was manufactured by contractors such as Plumb and A.C. Co. The blade ricasso is marked, but during sharpening some of the markings were ground off:
CHICAG?
191?
The reverse is marked:
1917
C.T.
Blade and ricasso are pretty much bright steel, due to polishing, and there is some sign of pitting towards the blade tip. This example definitely has been sharpened several times, and thoroughly cleaned. The main edge of many 1917s, such as this one, is mostly ground from one side, while the other side was left flat. The edge on the tips and near the ricasso are ground from both sides.
The leather tip of the canvas scabbard is worn, though it still has a bit of the original manufacturer marking visible:
Scabbard is in very good condition, though it is worn, and the leather is somewhat deteriorated. The wood grips are in good condition, though they have repaired chips on the rear near the pommel. The ordnance flaming bomb is visible on the rear spine of the grip, as well as on the bottom of the cross guard.
Overall Very Fine, and a great chance to add to any military knife collection.
