Original U.S. WWI M1917 .45 1911 Revolver Holster Belt Rig With Half Moon Clip .45 Cal 3 Pocket Pouch and Cavalry Spurs Grouping Attributed to Ex Louisiana State Senator William Jennings “Bill” Cleveland

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Grouping Available. This is an excellent grouping of items that just came in recently! This pair of items came to us with good old fashioned “word of mouth” as having been purchased from the estate sale of Ex-Senator William Jennings Cleveland. William Jennings Cleveland, Sr. served in both houses of the Louisiana State Legislature from 1944 to 1964. He was also acting governor for one day in 1959. Records about Cleveland are rather scant, including his time serving in office and in the US Army. This is an excellent candidate for further research!

The Items In This Lot:

- M1917 Holster for 1911 .45 Revolver with M-1910 Pistol Belt, WWI Half Moon Clip .45 Cal 3 Pocket Pouch and First Aid Kit Pouch: The holster is in great shape, with only light staining, and retains its original russet leather color, having never had oil applied which would darken the leather. The leather is slightly stiff from age and still retains the original leg tie down strap. The reverse is faintly maker marked with G & K for Graton & Knight and is dated 1918. These holsters are worn butt forward on the right hip, for left-handed "cavalry draw". There appears to be a rivet on the belt loop that was replaced, as for when we are unsure.

The half moon pouch would hold two 3 round half moon clips in each pouch, totaling 6 clips, 18 rounds in total. The pouch is marked on the inside top pouch with R.H. LONG / 18 and it does show signs of field use and wear, but free of any extensive damage.

The first aid pouch shows signs of wear but is otherwise offered in wonderful condition. The interior flap still retains the original depot markings for P.B.&Co. And is dated 1918.

- Matched Pair (2) of Model 1911 Cavalry “Blunt End English” Spurs: This style spur was introduced in 1911 and was used until cavalry became motorized in World War II. This same style spur was issued to both officers and enlisted men. This set is in lovely, aged condition. The leather is a bit dried out, cracked and torn but displays quite nicely with the belt rig. We couldn’t find any markings on the leather and most markings on spurs can be found on the interior side but due to how fragile the leather is we chose not to manipulate it and risk causing further damage.

A great pair of items ready for further research and display.
