  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very rare bird, an M1910 Canteen and cover with a clear USMC stamp under one flap, and an experimental belt hanger that is just one full bar without the break that the normal model has. The purpose of this change is unknown, but it is a very unique piece paired with being a Marine Corps issued canteen.

The canteen itself is in good shape and is maker-stamped on the back U.S. ACA 1918. The cap and chain are still fully attached. The canteen cover is a very rare example, being clearly stamped U.S.M.C. under one of the flaps. There is also some very faint writing on the back which could have been a name at one point, but it is too faint to read. The interesting part about this cover is the experimental hanger belt attachment on the back, which is a full solid bar instead of the normal bar with a large break in the middle to allow for attachment to the holes of the Mills belt. This example was likely made for a specific model of belt or may have had a different attachment method.

The U.S. Marine Corps had its own model of canteen that featured Marine Corps snap buttons, but very few of these were produced, so many of the Army’s M1910 Canteens were issued with U.S.M.C. stamped under one flap, and the U.S. on the front of the cover left off. This is a very difficult example to find, and the experimental hanger makes this a really killer example. Don’t miss it!
